Mascara tales

I was reading Glamour and they had an article on Best Beauty Buys where they had compiled a list of the best beauty products in the market based on reader opinions. They picked two products for each category - one 'specialty' product (think Dior, Clinique, aka expensive) and one 'drugstore' product (think Almay, Maybelline, aka affordable).
I totally got suckered in to the Best Mascara award which went to Lancome Definicils and Maybelline Great Lash respectively. I love mascara because you don't need much more in everyday make up except good mascara. And I love long thick lashes and I love mascara that makes your lashes exactly that - long and thick. My mascara staple is Maybelline XXL Volume + Length ($6) and I use it with dedication but it does get clumpy after a few uses and after using it for so long I can't even remember if makes any difference to the volume of my lashes or not. So I thought I'd try something new but I didn't want to waste $$ and get a dud. Hence, when I saw Glamour's love for Lancome, I said Voila!
Off I went to Sephora and made the purchase ($24). Seeing as it is about four times what I usually pay for mascara, I really wanted to see some dramatic results. And my verdict?!
The brush is very defined so it does not clump which is a plus and it separates each lash beautifully. However it does not make them as thick as I like so you have to be up close to admire the beauty of each lash. I haven't been using it that long so I don't know how long it will last but my regular mascara lasts a few weeks.

And now that I have converted my mascara money into Rupees I have realized I spent almost Rs. 1200. Lancome is great but I'm not convinced it's worth all that. I'm going back to XXL!

Do you have a favorite make up product?!

Reusable is good

I like being kind to the environment in whatever little way I can. I remember a few years ago when plastic shopping bags were banned in my hometown in India. Or was it just the non-degradable kinds that were banned?! Anyway something happened which was a step in the right direction.

But Being Green has become a good thing in recent years. I started off with recycling. Just by making sure cardboard, cans, egg cartons went in the recycling bin. Actually people recycle in India too, via the raddi wallah. Who actually comes to you and pays you for it. In America if you want money for your cans you have to take them to a recycling center and get maybe a dollar for a hundered cans. Okay maybe I'm exaggerating a tad but it's not a lot of $. The act of helping out the environment is the greater reward.
So recycling - check. Then I progressed to other things like using flourescent bulbs instead of the regular ones (save electricity), not wanting a receipt when I made a purchase at StarBucks (save paper), walking to the mail box (instead of driving), you get the idea. And now that a lot of people are Being Green, stores came up with the great idea of coming out with reusable shopping bags. The stores save money because they don't have to pay for plastic bags to hand out stuff in, and since you have to buy these reusable bags they make money while saving money. I think the Dollar Tree has one too. Although I wouldn't want to be seen with it . (This IS a fashion blog).
Target has its own and I got me some. Now I feel better about grocery shopping plus some stores give you a discount for bringing your own bag.
Even my beloved Forever 21 has its own.
Do you do your part in being nice to Mother Nature?! :)

Mehendi

Mehendi is so cool and festive! I love all the heavy and detailed artwork.

Stationary Junkie

I love stationary and I heart Papyrus. They have really pretty stuff and they use a lot of fabric/beads/ribbons etc to give it texture. It gives it a very handmade feel that I like.
I tried to find some pictures online but they did not look as good as they do in person.

I went shopping today. I wanted to get some jeans and maybe look around at things. My beloved Forever 21 did not provide any love. They had a lot of newsprint-oversized-teeshirt-things which are too casual and can be only be worn to casual events like the movies with your friend or a Mall outing. Like
I moved on to Love Culture which is a cute-ish place but kind of a mish mash of things. They have a lot of stuff which is a little overwhelming and I feel their pieces usually lack individuality. It all blends together in a way. Hard to explain but their prices are reasonable. I was pleased when 4 of the 5 pieces I went to try on were hits! I got a nice pair of jeans, a cute lace top that is classy which is hard to do with lace, another top and a white tank. Not bad I must say.
